Prime Minister Yair Lapid is expected to leave in the afternoon (Sunday) for a diplomatic visit to Germany.
This will be his second mission abroad as Prime Minister, after he traveled to France shortly after his appointment. During the visit, Lapid is scheduled to meet with his counterpart, German Chancellor Olaf Schulz, as well as with German Foreign Minister, Analana Barbuk.
According to the original plan, the visit was to be held as part of a joint government meeting (G2G), but the Germans wanted to avoid a step that might be interpreted as interference in the Israeli elections, so it was agreed on a visit by the Prime Minister only.
The main issues expected to come up in the talks are the preparation of the two countries for a situation where a nuclear agreement with Iran is not signed, and the way in which they may cooperate with each other.

As you may recall, two weeks ago the first strategic dialogue between Israel and Germany was held in Jerusalem with the participation of senior officials of the national security systems of both countries.
One of the topics that came up was the coordination of moves against Iran.
But because the chances of an agreement currently seem very small, Lapid is expected to emphasize to Schultz the serious dangers that the nuclear agreement entails for world peace and Israel's security.
Another issue that the leaders are expected to discuss is the purchase of the Arrow defense missile system, which the Germans are interested in following Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
However, the transaction requires American approval.

Lapid is supposed to devote part of the visiting hours to the memory of the Holocaust.
According to the current plan, he will visit Wenceslas Castle in South Berlin, where the Nazi regime decided on the "plan for the final solution to the Jewish problem" at a special conference in January 1942. A number of Holocaust survivors are expected to accompany Lapid on a tour of the place.
A political official told "Israel Hayom" ahead of Lapid's visit that the relations between the two countries are in excellent condition.
Israel is satisfied with Chancellor Schulz's decision to continue Angela Merkel's policy towards Israel, which sees Israel's security as part of Germany's national security.
